A Home Without A Bible
What is a home without a Bible?
Tis a home where day is night,
A starless night, for over life’s pathway
Heaven can shed no light.
What is a home without a Bible?
Tis a home where daily bread
For the body is provided
But the soul is never fed.
What is a home without a Bible?
Tis a family out at sea,
With compass lost and rudder broken,
Drifting oh, so aimlessly.

The above poem rings so true. A home without a Bible (and there are many) has no standard of direction for those who live within. There is no source for feeding the spiritual needs of its inhabitants. Many people in these situations profess to be religious, to believe in God, but do not sincerely believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. Their days are truly as night, because God’s Word has never been given the opportunity to shine the light of His love and saving grace into their lives. A home without a Bible will indeed have people drifting aimlessly through life with no real sense of purpose, because their knowledge of God is severely limited.
Just as the children of Israel were given manna from heaven to fulfill their physical needs, God has given us his Word to fulfill our spiritual needs. The psalmist said, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalms 119:105
Is the Bible in your home a guiding light that helps guide you down the pathway of life? Or is the Bible in your home simply collecting dust? Is it only for show? In many homes, that is the case. Are your Bibles left in the car, so you want have to bother carrying them back and forth when you go to worship services? A Bible becomes a collection of worthless pages of paper when it is never opened. What are you doing in your home to make sure that your family is getting the proper instruction from God’s Word? Does your family take the time to read and study the Bible together? A Godly Christian home is not something that just happens automatically. It is something that has to be nurtured and groomed to become a source of strength and security for those within its walls. We as parents need to work diligently to create homes where the Bible is read and studied to glorify God.
If we are not doing these things; if we are so caught up in the fast paced world we live in, then the time may very well come when God’s Word will become silent, and all homes will become “A Home Without a Bible.” -Ira Wood
